K-8 Special Education Teacher

Kihei Charter School seeks a student-centered, innovative, and experienced full-time, inclusion Special Teacher for the 2016-2017 school year. Teacher fulfill all duties of IEP care and coordination including writing IEPs, scheduling and chairing meetings.  The successful candidate must be a flexible team player who is able to collaborate with general education faculty and administration.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of federal and Hawai’i IDEA law
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited university or college
  • A minimum of two years of special education teaching experience and inclusion experience is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience using Project-based learning and a willingness to participate in annual middle school projects.

Technology and Engineering Teacher

Kihei Charter School – Middle School

 

Kihei Charter School seeks a student-centered and innovative full-time Technology and Engineering educator for the 2016-2017 school year. As a Technology and Engineering teacher, it is very important to be able to demonstrate an ability to develop and deliver an innovative approach to technology and engineering instruction and the ability to participate in school-wide Project-Based Learning. The Technology and Engineering teacher must possess a wide breadth of subject knowledge and a high level of skill designed to enhance instruction, student inquiry and cultivate critical thinking.

Qualifications:

  • At a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and/or Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Experience with Project Lead the Way is very desirable
  • Proficiency in web foundations and design, 3D printing and fabrication and computer science application
  • Teacher licensure for middle school in the state of Hawaii is preferred
  • At least two years of teaching experience, preferably in a public charter school
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues as Project-based leaning is a school priority
  • Able and willing to work with the IT department when needed
  • A TEAM player who can “roll with the punches”
  • Able to show Integrity, Respect and Accountability
  • A belief that “effort creates ability”

Science Teacher

Kihei Charter School – Middle School

 

Description: Kihei Charter School seeks a student-centered and innovative full-time Middle School Science Teacher for the 2016-2017 school year. Teacher will deliver innovative Science instruction to middle level learners in grades 7 & 8. The successful candidate must possess a breadth of Science and Technology knowledge designed to cultivate critical thinking skills, and enhance the understanding of scientific methodology and effective lab practices. Essential to the success of the KCS Science program is the capacity to foster relationships with outside partners and Science-based professionals in support of the instructional program. Additionally, critical to their skillset is the ability to be instructionally flexible by integrating outside collaborations that make science engaging and relevant to the lives of students.

Qualifications:

 

  • A B.S. degree in Science or a related field from an accredited university or college
  • A minimum of two years of middle level teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to use the natural environment of Maui as a natural science laboratory
  • Knowledge and experience using Project-based learning and a willingness to participate in annual middle school projects

As a Language Arts teacher, it is very important to be able to demonstrate an ability to develop and deliver an innovative approach to Language Arts instruction, to include Project-Based Learning. The Language Arts teacher must possess a wide breadth of subject knowledge and a high level of technology skills designed to enhance instruction, student inquiry and cultivate critical thinking.

  • At a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in English/Language Arts from an accredited college or university
  • Teacher licensure for middle school in the state of Hawaii
  • HQ, Highly Qualified status in English/Language Arts
  • At least two years of teaching experience, preferably in a public charter school
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues as Project-based leaning is a school priority
  • A TEAM player who can “roll with the punches”
